Artist Statement
I often think of my practice as a Moroccan market: dense, saturated, overflowing with life. You walk down one street of stalls, turn into a side passage, then another — and each time you enter a new space. Endless corridors of the medina, where what is visible and what is concealed keep trading places. For me, that is a metaphor for continuous search.
And within that abundance, I’m looking for quiet. It matters to me to arrive at a form that holds a state of stillness and meditation.
The central theme of my practice is “invisible work”: what usually stays off-frame, unspoken, and unrecognised as value. It’s the inner work of memory, of the body, of daily life, of motherhood, of witnessing. It’s the kind of labour that is almost never called art — and yet without it, the work cannot come into being.
Materiality, for me, is essential. The digital infrastructure of recent years sets the pace of how I communicate — fast, direct, almost without pause. I live inside that stream. Which is why hand-work remains vital: tactility restores presence, care, physicality. It gives a sense of reality that you can not only see but almost feel.
I choose not to restrict myself to a single medium. For me there is no hierarchy between “art” and “craft”, between artistic expression and research. If a subject matters to me, it has the right to take form. The world is far too complex and layered to be translated into a single language.
